Well just took out my axle and counted the splines turns out i have 26 spline axle's. Anybody else found 26 splines in thier 89 camaro?

 

Yes.

In fact, about 80% or thereabouts, maybe more, of 89 owners have found the early-model axles.

That's why the senior members always harp on everybody about "take off the cover and look", is because you never really know for sure until you do... it would REALLY SUCK, if you had already bought parts, and disabled your car, and now you have to walk to work because your car isn't what "the codes" or the RPO list or whatever, said it was supposed to be.

If you do in fact already have a 28-spline part, like a 4th gen carrier, you can buy axles; Superior part # EV10-4. You can get them at Summit; do a search on their site for for SAGEV104

 

I always tell people that 28 spline axles in a third gen were 90-92. If your 89 has 28 spline axles then it's a very late model in the year or someone has previously upgraded to the 28 spline.

The majority of 89's will have 26 spline axles.

You can also buy aftermarket 28 spline axles from www.tomsdifferentials.com for $125 each. All the aftermarket axles are better than stock ones providing you can even find a 90-92 donor car to get the axles out of.
