4.3L V6 700r4 vs V8 f-body 700r4

Comparing a 92 F-body transmission to an S10's... As mentioned, a V6, 4.3L in that S10 the transmission is out of. I know that the V6 F-body transmissions are slightly different somehow, but I don't know exactly what it is.

I am hoping this is a direct swap, and if it's not if it's feesable to convert the parts over in a short amount of time. It's going to be temporary until I rebuild my original 700r4; in the meantime I need a car with more than two gears.

The 4.3L 700r4 should work find. Shift points may not be quite right, and it may shift a little softer than you want. Look to see if it has the provision for the torque arm mount. The f-body v6 is a whole different animal, it's a 60 degree v6 that has a different bolt pattern...it won't bolt to your engine. I'm using one from a 4.3L V6 Chevy astro van...it had the torque arm mount provision.

even if it doesn't, all he has to do is swap the tail housings.

The guy at the trans shop who did my trans build said they are mostly the same, when doing a HP build on the 700 he likes to use the 4.3 case cause it has addition material around the bellhousing that makes it slightly stronger. Or so he says.

the only additional material it has is where the dust cover bolts on it has a slightly thicker flange. has nothing to do with the durabillity of the tranny.

I think they use fewer frictions in the 4.3L trans'. Either way, doesnt really matter since your only using it as a temp. None the less, I wouldnt beat on it.

Yep, it's slightly weaker but it will work fine. If it shifts funny just clean the crap out of your governer from the blown trans and pop it in the new one. Good to go!
Might also consider hitting up your local trans shop for a can of cooler line flush.

The flush would be no big deal, I could do it at work for free
