Need Help with rear end.
Hi guys I need help buying a bolt on rear end. I have no clue on what to buy or what would be best for my car when it comes to a rear end. I currently have a stock unit with 3.23 gears. My car is a daily driver and on most days to work I do go over 100. So not sure wearther or not to stay with 3.23 gears or get something else. By the way my budget is $2,000. Thanks for the help!
P.S. Tranny has transgo shift kit.

If you really wanted to spend $2K on a rear i would say get a 9", i believe a bolt in 9" is somewhere around $1500 and is more than enough to handle even a spicey 350.
Could spend the other $500 on rear disc setup too...

you only have 2 options, 12 bolt or 9" and only a few people make them. to save a few bucks i'd buy the houseing empty and fill it with my parts. look around and see waht you can find locally or ebay and then decide. another thing to look at is shipping, how close are you to the maker.

you can build a 10 bolt to handle way more power than you're putting out. With $2k, it will be plenty. Get a set of aftermarket axles, an Eaton posi, a set of GM 3.42's or 3.73's and a complete install kit.

Well it did break and the only reason I'm willing to pay $2k is that this will be the second time replacing the rear end. The first time I bought a used one for $ 400 and it only lasted 6 months. So I don't want to make the same mistake twice.

To build up a 10 bolt to handle a decent ammount of power will put you up in the $1000 range. IMO you would be alot better off spending a few more dollars and going to an alot better platform.

I read a write-up that I found from a link here and to really build the 10-bolt costs ~$850. You can snag a lot of good rears in the $1200+ area.
...and $400 for a 10-bolt? Find a salvage yard. I get mine locally at the yard for about $80 (minus brakes & sway bar + 30 day warranty).

I rebuilt my rear end and everything along with used 3-series posi rear from 96 car was ~$900. This includes stock OEM posi, not eaton or auburn (how much are those? another 300-400 bucks?)
Not sure where people saw 9" for $1500, if you see a new one for that price, I say grab it right now. Actually, lookup member Ions91Z28, he had 9" he was looking to sell. He told me he was thingking around $1300.
Moser (or strange, don't remember) are selling 9" for ~2500 last time I checked. They are selling decent 12-bolt for ~$2200.
Just my opinion, I learned a lot about rear ends while rebuilding mine and ede and other guys on here helped a lot, but if I was to do it over again, I'd spend another grand (considering how much I've already invested in other parts of the car) and get a 12-bolt. They are as strong as 9" and actually have less drivetrain loss and are slightly cheaper.

was just browsing spohn website and decided to do a little detour.
Looks like your budget is short by 9 dollars + shipping.

That 12 bolt is very nice but then I would also have to buy new rear brakes since it says my stock ones wont fit. But I might just go that direction.

Will I have to make any big mods if I put that 12 bolt? The brakes I really dont have a problem with since I was going to do that sooner or later. But will there be a problem with the suspension like the sway bar or other stuff like that?
