stripped out the INSIDE threads on my tranny

Axle/Gears: precision 3.73's, auburn diff
stripped out the INSIDE threads on my tranny
i was changing my tranny mount earlier and i tightened the bolt that goes through the mount into the tranny itself, stripped the threads inside the transmission. now what? they aren't completely stripped, but you can see by looking at it its not at tight as the other side. do i have any options besides tapping out the hole and using a bigger bolt?

where do i get that from? is that better than a plain old craftsman tap and die kit?

o deff helicoil that sumbitch u can get it at any parts store and its easy to put in we had 5 rear motor plates (darn magnesium) and we put the helicoil in there and its still in there

i know for sure that NAPA sells the kit for it. Take them the bolt and they can match the threads. Be aware that the kit is going to be around $30.00!
there are some inserts that don't require special taps and such. not sure if you have enough metal there to use one or not but it wouldn't hrt to see what you can find. if you have access to an industrial fastener supply you should have your pick to several inserts. 30 dollars would be a great price for a heli coil kit. i bought one few weeks ago for work, and it was an off brand, and the cost was over 50 dollars.

ok i got the helicoil. brilliant design. im ok to use high strength thread locker inside and out right?

just put the thread locker on the outside of the helicoil and thread it in. Make sure you knock out the little tang inside the helicoil.

what do you mean knock it out? like cut it out?
i like the keen-sert, or king-cert not sure which, takes a standard tap and doesn't reqire any special tools to install. it does need a lot of metal around the hold ,i tihnk a 1/4-20 insert takes a 1/2-13 tap. use to put inserts in the case of the little B&S engines back in my karting days before the stripped because you knew at some point they were going to strip.

shouldnt be a problem anymore, i got a torque wrench about a year ago, swapped the tranny mount before then and kind of just guessed at 35 ft lbs. i guess i didnt guess very well.

hmmm. i broke off 2 of my crossmember bolts taking it off to get it out of the way to drill for the heli-coil. then, trying to take them out after having been awake about 30 hours and worked 12, drilled in the crossmember bolts offcenter with my bolt remover. i dont think i'm going to get either of those out. im thinking about just putting it back together with what i have now, taking it to a shop and having them pull the bolts for me.
what should i expect, how difficult will it be for them to remove them? im expecting a 50-75 dollar bill for it, is that about right? any other options for me to get them out?

In my experience the only way I found that fixes the broken cross member bolts was to cut the floor out right above the nuts, drill out the welds that hold the nuts in and weld in new nuts. But that works for me since I am replacing the floor plans . It might not work for you, Just an idea.

We have all been down this road. Removing the bolts and restoring the threads can be time consuming and expensive. Nothing left to do , except write the check. I would not lose sleep over it. Time and money will fix it.

i decided to just drill them out myself after getting a couple of quotes on labor. it was looking a little to easy and i like a challenge, so i thought i might just drill out some of the threads on the nut on the other side.
what now? are those welds sturdy enough i could actually drill out the nut and put a helicoil in that? is there any other way to change that nut without cutting a hole in my floor?
