Vette 700R4 in 86 IROC
Hi guys,
So my stock tranny recently crapped out on me finally just before the winter. Here's te thing, I know that the corvette tranny has no provisions for mounting up to an fbody. However would it be possible at all to weld up maybe some plates or something so that I could use the vette 700R4? I mean like weld some meat on the bottom of it and then tap some holes into that? Or would that just be totally ridiculous?
The only reason I ask is that I have the vette tranny sitting in my friends storage bay and I really dont want to go out and buy a new one if I have that one sitting there with 44 thousand miles on it if I can make it work. If not then I guess once spring hits it's something I'll have to do. The local shop I'm working with does lots of custom fab up jobs but is something like this even feasable?
Thanks!

So I take that as a definate NO then for the vette tranny? Guess I'll be giving Probuilt a call after the new year then...
Thanks Apeiron for the definitive answer then.

Anything is possible, but why try to re-invent the wheel? You'd be bucks ahead to just get a trans from a 3rd gen F-body out of a junkyard. It will bolt right up and around here they go from $50-$250 depending on what is known about them (if they are known good, with a warranty, etc.).
If you need more beef take the trans to a reputable local shop that can build a 700R4 and get it upgraded with some better internals.

I thought you could change the tailshaft and they were the same transmission?

Change the tailshaft and housing and they're nearly the same, except for the location of the mounting holes.
