Possibly T-5 Swap

Having problems with my 700r4, and if it has to come out again, there is gonna be a t-5 going back in...

my question is, will a WC T-5 be alright behind 350 lb torque for a summer?

I just want to do the swap, get everything in there, then next winter either swap in a TKO600 or T56...

so i'm just wondering if I'm pushing the limits too far with a bit under 350 ft/lbs of torque, i know the T-5 is rated at 300 lbs...

what do you guys think?

Just about any thread with a mention of T5 in it says they are weak.

To answer your question, If you didn't abuse it, it would last for the summer. Granny it. Your best option would be to just go with a t56 or tremec now instead of wasting money on a tranny that will likely die with hard driving.

alright i'll do a search, and see what I can find. I do realize they are weak, but the world class ones are a bit tougher. rated from GM for 300 ft/lbs. and many people have backed stock 350 TPI's with them, and those are pushin 335 ft/lbs of torque stock, and i've seen some people beat the hell out of them.

My goal down the road would be to get a T56, but right now there is no way I can afford a T56 plus all the installation parts. So I would much rather get the car ready for a T56, then when the time comes, all i have to swap in is the new trans without having to worry about the convertering from an auto also..

Also i believe some of the stories of T-5 are a bit exaggerated. I don't understand how you can beat the hell out of them with a stock motor, then you start running a little power through them they just blow up. But at the same time i don't want this to happen to me, and i know there are people on here with real life experiences...

There's always going to be differences in peoples experiences with manual transmissions because everyone drives different. Some guys run a stock T5 behind a monster engine with no reported issues. Other guys run them behind stock engines and blow them up. All depends on the driver. Unless you are 100% sold on the T56 down the road I would say have a T5 rebuilt w/ the super alloy gearset to handle 450 ft/lbs and do the swap once and be done with it. Those rebuilds are between $800-$900 through TKOPerformance.

Some say if you drive it nice the T-5 WC will hold up . But I believe in a bit of overkill . I would and will be swappnig to a 6 speed later. Or if I can get a deal on a TKO I will go that route . My timid setup I am runnnig will make my T-5 hurt . 251rwhp and 318 rwtq

My friend had a WC T-5 in his behind a pretty potent 355 for 2 years. Just stay away from hard clutch dumps and power shifting and it should hold up for a while

right, thats what I mean, if i'm not dumb with it, it should be fine.

from what i understand, once it is in gear, and hit the gas, it will handle alot of power, and should have no problem. But when you start dumpin it at 4 grand, or slammin it into gear carelessly while still trying to accelerate, thats where you run into problems am I right?

Just dont beat on it too hard, my friend would catch gears every once and a while and such too, you can drive hard, just know what your doing so it doesnt fly apart on you

If you drive it right it should hold up to a lot more than the 300ft.lbs its rated for. My old teacher for my manual transmissions class has a Maverick with a Turbo 302 in it mated to an unmodified WC T5, he beats the **** out of the trans and the car runs high 11's and its held up for the last two years with no problems. He also runs 4.88 gears too (don't know if it makes a difference or not), and I've never seen him use the clutch to shift either... But if you're just planning on running it for a summer you should be okay if you don't beat the **** out of it.
