quick 9" rebuild question

I was wondering if I could take my ford 9" open carrier (28spline 3.89) and rebuild it to work with posi?

Are the casings different in any way shape or form?

sure all you'd need to do is swap carreirs. if the axle spline is differant then you'd need axles to match the carrier.

alright, so im guessing the open carrier is not able to be converted. Guess it is off to ebay.

*EDIT*
I think I'm confusing my self. The outside is the case. Correct? And the carrier is inside the case... Is this right so far? So I would be able to keep my stock 9" iron case? If so, any suggestions on what to get such as a kit (part numbers would be helpfull). My transmissions and driveline instructed said he would help me out if i did the research.
