Whats that noise?

I have a 91Z28 (700R4).

It shifts fine both down and up. But when I go to slow down and it downshifts through each gear back to first I hear a "clang" underneath. Also when I shift to reverse or drive it makes the same noise. Although the tranny shifts perfect. and no slips.
Could this be the universal joints? Hope so. I dunno if it's had a shift kit put in but the previous owner did say it had a new tranny but that was all the information I got. I can "feel" it as it downshifts more than I do in my RS.
