Seeing as how the "search" is down, I'll go ahead and ask this.
There seems to be mixed opinion on trans temp. Some say get it as cool as you can (with coolers and such you can only do so much), others say you have to watch you don't overcool. How much is too cool???
I have my fluid running through the stock cooler then to a B&M external cooler, then back to the trans.
The trans has a shift kit and higher stall convertor.
I've been told this is fine. If that's so, what I want to know is if I used a Be-Cool radiator with trans cooler, then to the B&M like I had, is that making the trans fluid too cool?? being that the Be-Cool rad is way more efficiant than a stock rad???

 

What I've always heard (if you have a tranny temp guage) is your ideal temp for your tranny is generally about 50 degrees cooler than your engine. I wouldn't want to go much cooler than that.. it shouldn't be FREEZING, but it shouldn't be way too hot either.. You want it a bit warm to get your tolerances tight, you wouldn't reem on a cold engine!

 

That's true. But is the above combo too cool? Anyone with any experience with that? What does a tranny generally run stock temp versus the engine?

 

I have been told by many tranny guys that you can hardly ever "overcool" a tranny. He said however, that aslong as everythings in good shape, running through the rad, then through a cooler will be perfectly fine. He reccomends installing a gauge in every performance build he does to. $100 gauge could save you a $1000 rebuild.

 

That's true too. And with pillar mounted guages, I guess they can be installed cleanly.

 

Where is the best place to put the sender? I put mine in the bottom of the pan, is that giving me the correct readings? Or should it be in pressure feed or the return line of the tranny lines?
