Will my TH700 blow up?
Christmas came early this year. Yesterday I got a lot of stuff from Summit, including ZZ383, 425 hp.
I had planned to buy a transmission from Bowtie Overdrives and contacted them twice. Now I have waited more than a month without a reply.
Its getting late for me to get a new transmission sent home so I was wondering if I could get away with using the orginal transmission this summer.
The current tires are 255R15 BFG TA.
In summit they are selling TCI TH700 transmissions rated for 450 hp, does anybody have an experiance with those transmissions.
Its not so vital to put the engine in for this summer, but if would be more fun
Thanks, Jon H.
p.s. swapping in an non overdrive transmission is not an option.

I would say it wont last long before all the frictions start slipping and burn up. The 2-4 band is where I had most of my probles, but after a while all the gears went out. The stock 700's didnt have much holding capacity. If its properly rebuilt by someone who knows what their doing, then it would probably last awhile. Also, the power rating has more to do with heat dissipation then anything else. The torque capacity is whats most important. From what I hear, the TCI units are more of a stock replacement. I got a TC from them and it was pretty much just a warmed over stock unit. I havnt had any experience with bowtie overdrives, but it didnt seem like anyone had anything good to say about them.

I bought a B&M trans cooler and temp gauge to monitor what is going on. I will probably drive the TA less than 500 miles this summer and not be to hard on it if I install the engine before summer (use the summer to break in the motor).
Is there any company that makes good TH700 (for this hp and tq level) and have a good customer service?

Check out this sight.
They claim to build a 700R4 that will take up to 600 HP and 450 to 600 FT'lbs of torque.

I have many units out there doing very well, and with very little problems. I have some in the low 10's doing fine. Go to http://www.700r4l60e.com/store/custo...&cat=20&page=1 If this is more than you need, I have others. They come with a one year warranty, and the core charge is included in the price. Ask around and see what is said about these units. Let me know if I can be of help?

If there's still any doubt, Pro Built is just about the best 700R4 builder in the world. I would never hesitate to use one of their transmissions.

i have a stock 350 Tpi and I had a 700 raptor put in and this trans has some serious kick with good driveability. ( www.700raptor.com ) My mechanic said it should handle anything i can throw at it. Driven it for 6 months daily and not a single problem. They have very crisp shifts, and they can make them at even higher ratings then the 600hp/600trq rating mines at. They also give U the choice of stall on your converter. To top it all off the costomer service was great, and I got a free trans cooler.

Well there seems nobody wants to sell me a transmission
I have contacted most of the companies in this business but usually I dont get any answear.
I did get an answear from Pro Built Automatics but the answear was with my text and I thought it was just a email telling me it the had receved my mail (my mistake but shouldnt be a big deal). When I found out (month or months later) I sent an answear back, and then another and another but I am still waiting for a reply. Now I think I wont get an answear from him
but I am still waiting.
I sent an email to Art Carr and Raptor but have not got an answear yet. Before that I sent mail to Bowtie Overdrives.
Probably those companies dont want to send outside of USA but if thats a problem a friend has an address in New York so those companies wont have to worry about that.
It should not be a matter of trust, I have bought a lot of stuff from USA (probably worth ~$15000) without problems and get a good discount as "good customer" from many of the companies and have 100% positive record on ebay.
So it seems I will have to buy a transmission from Summit (even though I dont think they have the best transmission for me), I have often bought from them and I know they want my business.

I agree on the Raptor. - I've always been 110% happy with all purchases and advice from them. Whether it be for a performance car or a built 4x4. - and yes, they can build a 700r for better than 600hp.
- Phone them. I've always had questions answered on the spot, over the phone by one of their techs. Drop them a call, I'm sure that's probably a bit pricey from where you are, but you'll be talking to someone who will answer you questions on the spot, not trying to sift through emails of people who actually want something and people who just want to pick their brain(the one biggest flaw with net purchasing).

UPDATE
Well I finally done it, I bought a Level 3 Raptor Transmission with the torgue upgrade and 2300 stall converter. With shipping its around $2400 and I think thats ok.
Their customer service is very good and they seem to be making quality transmission.
So I know what I will be doing next christmas

sounds good. - Dans87GTA is dealing with their customer service right now. I built him a new trans and his new Raptor converter decided to spit the roller stator. They guy was very suprised, but had it shipped to his manufacturer to be check and said a new one will be on the way as soon as it gets there, and he'll pay the shipping. - This is the first problem I've had with over 6 order from them, and they seem to be doing pretty good with correcting the problem. - The guy was blaming the trans at first, but after explaining it to him he agreed.
Good luck!
