4th gen axles

Car: 84 Firebird Trans Am
Engine: 305 4bbl HO
Transmission: 700-R4, 3.73 rear
4th gen axles
I am getting a posi diff and i will need 28 spline (i have an 84 so they r 26) but i don't think 4th gen fit bcuz they r longer than 3rd gen....i couldn't remember so tell me if i'm wrong....what r our length axles?

Axle/Gears: Ford 9"/31 spline spool/4.86
82-92 axles are 30-3/8" long
93 - 97 axles are 32-1/8" long
98 and up are 32" long
The only 28 spline axles that will fit in a third gen housing are from a 90-92 third gen or aftermarket axles.
