Dextron 3 is the type. Total fill for empty trans and converter is approx 11 qts. More if a deeper than stock pan is used.

Dextron 3 supercedes dextron 2. It will be fine. For a pan drop only, 5 qts on hand should be enough.

i pulled the pan today and found an 8mm bolt on the magnet. that really scared me. turns out it screws into what i think was an accumulator, not the valve body. its a cylinder shaped metal piece right above the magnet. i tightened it back in. tranny shifts smoother now because of the new fluid. the fluid was very clean and i didnt get any metal shavings besides the normal build up from the band wear. so far the rubber gasket hasnt leaked. one of the pan bolts under the tranny cross member got cross threaded...there was nothing i could do about it. a tap wouldnt fit in there. i just monkied it down and hoped for the best. oh well....i dont plan on changing the fluid for another 40k miles and i will die before i put that kind of milage on the car
