Will Putting in higher stall w/ electronic lock up hurt my gas mileage??

Ok- I took my 358 "the one listed below" out of my old 4x4 and put it into my camaro and put high flow TPI stuff on it.. the cam is really high range like 4000-7000rpm..

and when i mash on it around u know like 2300 rpm its kinda doggy, A guy told me to put a 3000 or 3500 stall in it and said i wouldnt notice a difference..
Just wondering if i would or not..

ive got a stock converter in my 700r4 right now..

If you have a lockup the stall speed doesn't matter. When the clutch locks up you have a direct connection, no slippage.

I may be wrong but if you put a higher stall on your car your mileage will suffer. That's just a fact. Engaging the electronic lock will improve that however but taking advantage of the higher stall is the whole point of adding it, right?

u might lose one or two miles per gallon.. i lost about 1 when i went to 2800stall. when it locks up it drives like stock so your rpms are down.

but having the stall converter around hills and slow speeds, its not locked up your rpms will be high and thats where u lose some mileage.

but yeah, once it locks up and ur cruising, you cant notice it there till u mash on the gas.. the difference is amazing. if your high range get 3500stall and enjoy the power rush when u stomp on it.

I went from 18 AVG to 15 AVG. After my 9.5" ACT 2500 flash stall. I do a lot of country road driving, so I'm constantly seeing slow corners and inclines. If I do a lot of interstate driving I can AVG 20-22.

Definitely had more low end grunt off the line even on the stock 350. Steep inclines and ramps can be a PITA until you get use to them.

My advise would be to call a place like probuilt or PI and order a converter. Off the shelf ones are cheaper but there larger diameter (means more stress and less torque output) and there usually rated for a specific torque to reach that flash. Dana wrote down my combo including cam, intake, rear gear, CI, and torque output before picking and ordering a converter. Which meant it cost it a little more, but it wasn't a guessing game on the flash speed it was dead on.

NM noticed you had a ported intaked.

Buy the best converter you have $$$$ for.

Going with a Precision Vigilante would be a safe bet. Or something else like Yank.

They are very efficient converter and might cost u 1-2 mpg around town depending on your habits. Highway mileage will remain the same if its locked up. I actually have gotten very little decrease, however when im off of it, im off of it and when im on it, im on it lol

The lesser converters arent bad per se, just less efficient so it costs u more in gas mileage than a more efficient converter.

later

im going to go with a 10" 2800-3000 stall converter I think..

they seem to run about $350 or so +shipping with a year warranty, and rated for 500 hp.. Hows that sound?

It depends how you drive, if your constantly low speed, stop and go making use of the high stall it is going to hurt the mileage a bit. But once you hit the highway and it locks up you will be getting the exact same mileage because no matter what TC you have once it locks up you have a direct 1:1 drive from the engine to tranny.

I dunno if this is just b/c it has the stock converter or what, but since my tranny rebuild it locks up at alot lower rpms, and i cruise around town in 4th gear at like 20mph....
