Well my friend just gave me these for a down payment on my formula parts car. My question is who has this kit and how do they like it. Also i know trans go is better but this was free so what else can i buy to mod my 700r4 note the car the shift kit is going on is a 91 v6 firebird. I think the trans go shift kit comes with a servo this one dont anybody sell after market servos. what else does the trans go kit have that the b&m dont that i can buy extra? Last question who has used the trick shift fluid and how do they like it it worries me a little bit because one the color is blue but i know that is just dye and two it says meets and exceeds type f requirments what about dex 2?

There are better and for more effective and safer options for your trans and its life expectancy out there.

If you do a search you will find many threads about the B&M kits. In sevral of these threads I have post ways to reduce the harsh shifting with the kits.

 

Take it back and get a transgo.

 

well i didnt ask for people to tell me to take it back i dont care about harsh shifts isnt that part of the reasons why people get them so they shift hard?? thats like saying dont get headers caz it will make your car loud. I just wanna hear about the fluid and here from people who HAVE the kit in there car and other ways to beef up the tranny like servos etc. I cant rebuild it im 16 making little to no money and i pay for insurance and gas and phone bill so i cant spend 140 on a shift kit i got the B&M for free and the tranny fluid.

 

Install the b&m kit. Some like it , others do not. If you don't like it, simply uninstall it and only your time will be lost. Check the label on the trick shift fluid. If they do not recommend using it in a lock up type converter, do not use it. Your trans has lock up. Also, no need to give the bad language filter a work out.

 

Crap!!! I've had that in my car for the last few years!!!. I've never notice a problem. I also didn't notice if the bottle said not to use it in a lock up converter!!! Am I screwed? Can I switch back? And what the hell happens anyway?

 

If you can't afford a rebuild then you definitely better not put that kit in, because that's what it ultimately results in. Just in the short time I worked at a transmission shop, we had three transmissions come in as a direct result of B&M shift kits.

Type F fluid is for Fords. It's not a Dex equiv. fluid.

Don't get upset at these people just because it's not what you want to hear.

 

It has been more than 10 years since I read a bottle of the trick shift. I may or may not be correct about it not being compatible with lock up converters. Check into it though.

 

If getting headers meant I was gonna have to rebuild my engine soon down the road because of them, than I would avoid them.

 

The B&M Valve body kit can shorten the life of the transmission. If a valve body kit is designed & installed correctly, you will not get the harsh shifts that you have heard about that are supposed to be normal. Harsh part throttle shifts shorten the life of the transmission. You need smooth part throttle shifts to get maximum life out of the gear train. B&M Trick Shift is type "F" reworked, and can shorten the life of the unit, by allowing the clutches/band to come on slower, and then come on all at once at the end of the shift. This gives the feel the shifts are firmer. Go back into the archives, and you will find plenty of information on this and in more detail. Yes, you got it for free (ever wondered why), but in the end it could cost you much more than you can afford. Remember, there is no such thing as a "free" lunch, someone pays for it eventually.

Dont you have a B&m transpak kit how do you like it i want firm shifts that will chirp tires and move the rear end out. Also improved acceleration and faste shifts can the B&m give me this?

 

Although the B&M kit is looked down upon, I have had good luck with it. If you like harsh shifts that bark the tires, you will like it. You have heard both opinions on the kit, good and bad, choice is yours. My car has had a B&M kit for 14 years. I still like it. It is just rude enough for me.

Deep pan, cooler and vette servo are all good. The wot upshift valve is tough on 3/4 clutch pack.

 

Is that servo i have listed a vette one. Also i shouldnt get a downshift kit?

 

If the downshift valve is what I think it is, it will allow foot on the floor, wot upshifts into 4th. GM did this to protect the weak 3-4 clutch pack. The servo listed is a vette servo.

 

I'm not sure why GM on some vehicles that when you attempted to make a WOT 3-4 shift it would not occur, as all of the 3-4 clutch packs from the factory are the same, and it had nothing to do with the 3-4 clutch pack as it is already applied when you are in 3rd gear. It is the 2-4 band that is coming on when you make a 3-4 shift. Most corvettes can make a WOT 3-4 shift. It depends on the location of the 4-3 part throttle downshift hole passages in the TV plunger sleeve. I make changes here based on what the driver is wanting/needing, and can somewhat taylor it to match, or can pretty much eliminate the 4-3 downshift altogether. The harder you make it to have a 4-3 downshift, by these modifications, the easier it is to have a WOT 3-4 shift.

 

I put the B&M kit im my '86 700r4 about 2 1/2 years ago. Its not at 87k miles and it shifts hard (the reason I bought the kit). I beat the crap out of this car waiting for the old 700 to kick, but I've never had a problem.

I just threw regular dexron 3 in.

 

I've heard only bad things about the B&M, I honestly haven't found it that bad. I've got it on a stock 305 TBI, to a 3.42 POSI rear axle.

 

I have the B&M kit installed in my 70k mile+ 700R4. Shifts nice and crisp. Tires will chirp if the RPM is brought up high enough. Trans is going strong behind a 340hp motor with a 100 shot of nitrous.

Harsh shifting all the time(even at part throttel) results in the pinion gears being literally beat out of the planetaries, thus expensive rebuild. I've seen plenty low-gear planets trashed from B&M kits and the like.

Trans-go and Superior make a real "kit". As the old saying goes, "you get what you pay for."

 

I have heard tons of stuff bad about the B&M, I was wondering about it too, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Plus I'm puttin out over 400HP from a 383 on motor alone. I'm afraid to spray it. I just gotta feelin the trans will grenade if I spray it. Now, about the WOT thing. My 84 Z/28 won't shift at WOT and it anoys the crap out of me. My 85 vette will shift at WOT all day long. Their one year apart in age, but for all I know the vette had a kit put in it before I bought it. Does the vette normally shift a WOT? If so just get a vette tranny from a junk yard. $350 bucks and your set.
