T56 w/ 3rd Gen pedals?

If I had a set of 3rd Gen 5-speed pedals, would it be easier than swapping in the 4th gen pedal assembly. I know that the 3rd gen ones are two piece (brakes/clutch and gas seperate) and that the 4th gens are a one piece. But is worth getting a 3rd gen set to save the frustration?

There might be a problem with the clutch pedal not having enough motion. It seems that the majority of people that have disengagement problems have 3rd gen pedals. I say why not just mount the 4th gen and be done with it? It's not that difficult (I just got mine installed). Just cut off the gas pedal and enlarge the four bolts for the brake booster.

Actually, the "problem" with 3rd gen pedals is the exact opposite; the pedal has TOO MUCH travel, not too little. More accurately, the pedal itself is fine; but the stud on the 3rd gen pedal is too far away from the pivot as compared to the 4th gen location, so it moves the 4th gen slave cyl too far.

I used the 3rd gen ones when I did the swap. They work fine, except that my pedal is stiffer than with the T-5 clutch, and is mostly way up at the top. I get full clutch disengagement by about 2/3 of the travel of the pedal, while still having a bark-the-tires-in-4th-gear kind of engagement if I want it.

I don't think the reason people have trouble getting their clutches to disengage, has anything to do with the pedals. For about 30 years now I've been trying to figure out why it seems so difficult for some people to make clutches work. I've put in dozens and dozens of clutches in a variety of cars and trucks over the years; and NEVER, NOT EVEN ONCE, had trouble with one failing to disengage. Whyever iit is that people are having trouble with that, it isn't because of the clutch itself, or the pedals, or "bleeding", or any of that; they're assembling something wrong, and I sure can't figure out what it is in most cases (except of course for putting the throwout onto the fork wrong.... very very common). They always work fine for me.

I'll have to see what I can find before I make my decision.

But, I have another question: What is a good clutch for some drag racing and alot of mountain/road courses and auto-crossing?

I used the 3rd gen pedals and it seems as though mine doesnt engage completely and when I push the clutch all the way to the floor a I get a squealing noise like its pushed in to far. Ive heard that it may be nessicary to put a thin shim on the slave cylinder to adjust this problem, Hopefully I will have some answers soon when I start working on it again in a few weeks.
