Can someone verify this information to be correct: 1990-1992 camaros used 28 spline axel shaft while the 1982-1989 has the 26 spline shaft.

There were NO 28 spline units before 89. In 89, about 20% or less got the 28 spline setup. In 90, there were very few 26s left, probably less than 5%; 91 up, they're pretty much all 28s.

89 is the main problem year. Seems like, if you don't look before you buy, whatever you buy will be the wrong one.

 

But basically the information that you have is correct and under most situations, that's the axle spline rules you should go by.

That's also only for the 10 bolt. The 9 bolt uses different axles.

 

...I'm going to be ordering a ring & pinions, a new carrier, and a master overhaul kit, and the guy from Randys Ring and Pinion needed to know if i had a 26 or 28 spline, so I guess my 88 should have a stock 26 spline...

 

uh I was told that the 88's came with a 28 spline.
