bent axle?
I recently installed an 01 rear endThe only history I have on the rear is that it came out of a salvaged SS. from the moment I put my car on the ground, the pass. side wheel wobbles about an inch and there is a very loud constant scraping noise which gets louder with speed. the rotor looks just fine, the housing looks fine to the naked eye. What else could it be? This is my only car, I just want some input before I start in with a wrench. Thanks.

Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Bent axle.
You already made a pretty good guess.
Put the rear axle tubes up on jack stands (the TUBES, not any other part, one on each side); take off the tires and the rotors; crank up the car, put it in gear, and watch the wheel flange on the side in question.
If it wobbles, it's smoked.
You need a Superior Gear EV10-5, available from Summit and various drive train type places.Bent axle.

you'll probably want new wheel bearings as well, and other assorted bearings and seals.
'01 rear, should be a different length axles then the typical 3rd gen one, sofa sent you the right link, but in case you go to a different vendor, or JY, make sure it's for the 4th gen rear.
if you got this from a JY that has any kind of warrantee (usually get a 30-90 day) you could try showing it to them and getting some $ back to offset the price of new axles, or just trading to a different rear, if you get that choice.

I replaced the axle and bearing on the side in question, corrected the wheel wobble. The awful noise remains though. It's a very loud howling/scraping noise. Could it be the posi unit itself? It doesnt sound to me like gears, but i'm no mechanic. I bought replacement carrier bearings and hope I can get em in with tools on hand. What else could it be? Anybody know what's involved in removing them?

pull both of your axles out, and turn the pinion, see if you can still hear the scraping sound. if so, it might be your pinion bearings, or carrier bearings. if you can't hear it, then it'll be your axle bearings. find the sound first though..
you'll need 2 pry bars, like 18" long screw drivers with a bent tip. No other tool worked for me worth crap, but a guy popped out my carrier easy as pie with those. Pry on the ring gear bolts, then on both sides of the carrier once you get it started.
if an axle was bent, perhaps the entire axle is pooched. but I suppose it's worth a shot finding the sound...
