Installation Problem

Well ive been trying to install my stock transmission onto a 89 350 tbi engine i bought for my 92 camaro rs. And the problem I am having is that it wont go together as easy as the stock to the stock motor did. Also when i do get it lined up i have to use a couple of bolts to pull it together and then the torque conv. wont spin freely like the stock one. And yes the torque conv. is in all the way. Im not sure but every mechinic I talk to says that it should bolt up with no problem but in this case its not. If anyone has any idea they would be appreciated.

your prob. is that the t/c has two noches on the part you insert they have to line up with you trans pump you have to spin the t/c and push and you will feel it seat about another 1/4 inch you will know when its down all the way when you look from the bottom the t/c should almost hit the trans it will only be about 1/4 inch of so away from it.

Hes right. The torque converter isn't in all the way. You could have damaged the planetary gears, clutches etc. by sucking the trans against the block with the bolts. If the trans is out, you should check it by moving the input shaft in and out and left to right to make sure its not crushed into anything. It should only move by a few thousandths of an inch each way.

The flywheel should have a ridge on one side where the teeth are. The ridge should face the torque converter and the flat side should face the block. Why do you think the fly is in backwards?
