Need help with SGI-5 c

Another revision and another owner who doesn’t know what to do with it.

I've tried a ton of different dip configurations, outputs, etc and for the life of me I can't get the speedo needle to move an inch. In a fit of anger I just connected the VSS directly to the ECM with the SGI-5 c out of the picture and it worked, it just read the typical 114 at 10 mph. This means that both the speed sensor and the speedo/ecm/buffer/whatever all work and the problem lies in the box somehow.

(straight from the .pdf).

I have 12v wired off the cigarette lighter for now and it's grounded to the transmission tunnel on a factory grounding location. The unit powers on so it's fairly safe to assume this isn't the problem.

Sensor ground - this is where I put one of the wires from the VSS.

Speed input signal - the other wire from the VSS

I tried output 4 after reading the manual and output 3 after reading some on this site but neither yielded me a signal. Also tried output 1. I’m using the yellow wire that used to plug into the 700r4 speed sensor as my output wire and the other wire is floating around not attached to anything.

The green light blinks when the car is moving and is solid when it’s stopped (this shows that it’s getting input). It just won’t move the speedometer needle even a hair.

I'm completely at a loss

....um...if I remember corectly one wire has to be grounded and the other goes to the output....that just might be your prob

Both signal wires from the transmission have to be connected, one to input and one to ground. Disconnect one and you will lose your signal. The ECM side is internally grounded so no worries there.

I now have signal to the ECM. I swapped the yellow wire out for the purple wire and got the needle to move. It's still way off but at least it's not as far off as it was originally.

Switches are all off. After reading the manual I can tell you that switch 3 should be on and I can’t adjust low enough with it off (believe me, I tried). The only problem is that with switch 3 on I don't get any signal to the computer (or at least not a single the computer understands). The check engine light comes on and the needle doesn’t budge.

I’m guessing this is because out3 jumps from 4,000 ppm ac to 8,000 ppm ac with the third switch flipped. Anyone have any ideas?

edit: guess I'm just impatient or all my switch flipping ended up working. Switches 3 & 4 are on now and everything works. It just takes about 5 seconds for the speedo to initially move. But after that it’s prefect.
