Manual Tranny - Rough Shifting Once Warmed Up......HELP!
Alright so the tranny shifts pretty good when I first start it up. After driving for lets say 10 minutes it gets stiffer and stiffer trying to shift. If I come to a stop after running it is pretty bad. To get into reverse I have to go from 5th first. Normally will go into 1st if I move it pretty slowly in, then its hard to go into second unless I do it a low rpm, I can go from 1st to 3rd or higher pretty easily. Still I have driven other manual cars and it is stiffer than all of them. I was driving a jeep and it would just shift nearly by gravity.
My dads saying its probably a bad master cylinder and he already has got the parts. I was wondering if this was a common problem and if any of you guys could think of something simpler that could be the problem. The car is a 86 Z28 with about 85,000 miles.

The exact same thing is wrong with my T-5. It's not quite as bad as yours sounds, but its enough to be a pain. Mine does well in the morning and in places with little traffic, but when i have to stop and go it acts up real bad. I'm thinking your dad's right. The reason there's resistance is because the clutch is not disengaging. At first I thought I had a bad pressure plate, but then I noticed it had good days and bad days. It wasn't consistent. But yea I suspect my master cylinder's the problem as well. I don't think its pushing the slave cylinder as well as it should be, but i have yet to further inspect mine. In the morning the fluid is colder and more dense, the same as when you first start it, so it works better after a cold start, but once it warms up it goes to crap. I'm not sure what you can do to repair it, but I know you can't adjust it. Just wanted to let you know your not the only one. Good luck!

What kind of gear oil are you running in your trans? Ive heard that some of them had a problem if you use the wrong viscosity. master sounds like more the culprit but I was just throwging in a lil extra to think about.
