Trans fluid

just put in a new monster motorsports transmission 700r4 in my 91-Z L98
car used to run low 14's all day long

Question now is i put B&M trick shift in ths tranny and it is not a dextron type fluid but b&m says it will work

car it now running HIGH 14's and even a 15

you think if i drain the tranny and swap to a dexton it would help things out
anyone running this trick shift stuff in there cars

only thing i changed was tranny and fluid

thanks for your input

I was under the impression that B&M trick shift fluid was NOT for lock up type converters. I have not read the bottle in over 10 years though. Read the container and check.

is it slipping at all?

Are the shift points the same? Was the governor changed?

Is the TV/Detent cable set properly?

What was your MPH before and after the trans swap?

And for what it's worth, the B&M fluid sucks. I've seen significant drops in fluid temps by replacing that junk with cheapo Mercon/Dextron from Advance. If you can afford it, Royal Purple ATF is the way to go.

yes the shift points are the same i adjusted the tv cable but wasent geting full throttle but shifted at its normal shift points 35mph and 45mph took it to a trans shop for adjustment fixed that. it kinda feels like it slips once in awhile but only ONCE in awhile so im not sure if its just in my head or not.
the tranny its self feels funny feels like there 2 thirds and 2 forths which i know is probley a lock up but should it be locking up under full throttle. tranny just dont shift lick it used to. im leaning towards changing the fluid but want so more opinions cuz that b&m stuffs like 3.99 a quart and the trannys full of it

Well if you're crying about 3.99/qt, then you wont like royal purple at $9/qt. If it's not shifting right you need to get it back to the trans shop that built it and leave it there until it's right.

but purchased the trans over the internet from Monster Motorsports over there in Florida im in cali. i installed the tranny myself. this car has torn up 4/5 trannys in its lifetime 180,000 miles and motor has never been rebuilt so i decided to buy a bad azz tranny from a company turned bad my stock tranny with B&M shift kit shifted better then this trany does and they say they use transgo products.

might change fluid to a dextron you say that royal purple is worth the money, im tired of buying and replacing trannys and my foot likes the trottle so what ever can make this trans survive will do

Call 'em up and ask how they set up the valve body. There are several different ways that they can install the shift kit, maybe they set it up soft. Did they put in aftermaket servos? Royal Purple is worth the money but I don't think the fluid has anything to do with your problems.

"my stock tranny with B&M shift kit shifted better then this trany does and they say they use transgo products". If you mean that it does not shift as hard at light throttle, then yes, it is supposed to do this. At WOT, the shifts should be firm, but not at light throttle.

Car: projects.......
as for loosing performance, an old torque converter could have been slipping more, giving you more stall speed than a new one(assuming you put a new one in with the new trans).
hummmmm, I'm again reminded why I deal with PATC(Raptor) a lot....I'll have to check Pro Built's site and see what he has to offer....
----------
also, I personally have had nothing but bad experience with synthetic fluids. Anything from slippage to higher temps, all in new trans' and all have no problems after switching to regular old dexron III....
