speed sensor question probably stupid

Car: 89 Camaro RS
Engine: 350 TPI L98
Transmission: 700r4 w/ shift kit and 2500 stall
Axle/Gears: 2.77 one tire fire!!
speed sensor question probably stupid

this may be a stupid question but i had my 89 TBI harness transformed into a 89 TPI harness and all is well except for one thing.....did the 89 700R4 with a 305 TBI have a speed sensor on the trans?....from what i have seen in the repair manuals i own it shows the VSS on the trans where i have a cable attatched.....thanks for any help....also i have a green wire with a single wire connnector hanging from my harness....thanjs agian guys

Transmission: Beat to heck 700R4
Mechanical speedos and VSS are interchangeable, so you could put on VSS if you need to. You'll need to change the "speedo gear" on the output shaft if you changeover.

Well you could put either your mechanical speedo, or you could put in the VSS. All thats needed is to remove the mechanical speedo, remove the extension tailhousing, take off the clip and gear from the output shaft, and put the VSS gear and clip on - button it all up and put the VSS in. I know for sure VSS is used for cruise control, and while I'm no expert I can't possibly imagine that there is not a need to have the vehicle speed input to the ECM - I just plain don't know.

89 Camaros had a mechanical cable driven speedo and a VSS within the speedo. 89 Firebirds had a VSS and an electric speedo. You are fine.
