when did they change the 700r4s

Car: 88 Trans am
Engine: high comp vette engine.
Transmission: 700r4
Axle/Gears: 308
when did they change the 700r4s

i have a 88 t\a and it has a plug sensor for the speedometer and the tranny i have has a cable sensor/ the guy told me the tranny came out of a 91 iroc wouldent it have a plug like mine.

Swap the sensor our of your old one into the new one.

They changed to electronic in 90, but the external cases are exactly the same. So just put the cable speedo drive in place of the electronic plug one.

For the Camaro. The Firebird went electronic in 86.

Axle/Gears: 3.42
you will still have to change the vss senser on the output shaft looks like a metal speedo gear.

Axle/Gears: 12-Bolt 3.73
The drive gear on the tailshaft is the exact same plastic gear for cable and electronic speedos. The metal gear you are thinking of is a reluctor wheel used in 4th gens.
