Axle question

Heres the deal. I bought a posi unit for my car about a year ago with 3.73 gears in it. Right now it has a 3.42 open rearend. I took it to my mechanic thinking that this thing would drop right in but it turns out that the axles are different sizes. The ones in the car now are 26 spline that are 30" long. The posi needs 28 spline axles...I was wondering where i could get a set of axles that will fit so my posi will work. Thanks for the help.

Friendly neighborhood junkyard, parts house or dealer.

Or stronger ones from Moser.

If i go to the junkyard what kind of vehicles could i look at to find the right axles? Did only Z-28's come with the 28 spline axles? Monte Carlo, Truck, Firebird....?? I really have no idea what to look for.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
90-92 Camaro/Firebird

No other axles will work. Don't bother with trucks or G bodies, or 93-up Camaro/Firebird, or 89-back.

Doesn't have to be a Z28/Trans Am/whatever. Even the plain-jane 6-cyl & TBI cars got the same axles.

You can buy new, real nice ones from Superior. Part # EV10-4

Also try to get some off a disc rear car if your rear is currently disc because they are different. The drum axles will only work if you have drums or are willing to buy new lt1 style rotors.
