1-2 Shift at WOT problem

There is a problem that I have been dealing with for a few months that I need to figure out.

When my transmission shifts from 1-2, and I am at WOT, sometimes the tranny will slip...it feels like it shifts into nuetral. The engine just revs up. When I let off of the throttle, the RPM's come back down and the tranmission slams back into gear at about 2-2500 RPM. Any ideas?

hook a pressure gauge up to the trans on the side port and check the pressure...if thats good maybe a possible servo issue or most likely...worn clutches

The tranny has about 35k on the tranny, has anyone else worn clutches that quickly?

pull the pan and if there is any black goop in the fluid, bottom of the pan or on the magnet then your clutches are shot. If not then you need to find the problem before you DO burn them up. Shift points and firmness are controlled by the TV cable and governor. With WOT problems I would check the governor first. Pull it out and make sure it moves freely and isn't gummed up. Also make sure the springs haven't fallen out. If all is well, put it back in. Then re-adjust the detent cable.

And yes, you can burn up a trans with less than 35k, all it takes is a mis-adjusted TV cable and you can burn it up in less than 1 mile.

I tried to do the TV cable adjustment, but didn't hear any clicking. Would it be streched out so far that it is beyond adjustment? It appears I may need a new cable. Does this sound right?

if the cable is worn and the teeth aren't there then it wouldn't be worth the risk trying to adjust it. Definitely worth it to buy a new cable and adjust it properly.

The teeth are there, but the cable just doesn't pull hard enough to adjust anything when I try to adjust it.
