up the passenger's butt

i have a 1986 IROCZ with a 305 tpi and 700 r4 well the other day i back off a drive way bout a 7 inch drop and it hung teh bottom of my car preety good since then when i get on the gas a little hard something slams up and hits real hard under the passenger seat or in the trans/shift tunnel i cant really tell. but i got under it today and look to see if teh tranny mount went out.. nope it was fine all the bolts were tight as far as i chould tell and the torque arm is fine too.... any suggestions what it chould be?? the first time i notice it when i punched it at the red light it bang real hard bout 2 or 3 times.. now it does it just once....

its like when the body shifts backwards because of the massive torque machine " THE 305" hahah it throws the trans up into the bottom of the car but i jacked the trans up a little and it was tight as chould be??? help me

sounds like U broke the tranny mount, U uasally can't tell it's broke just by looking at it, U have put a jack under the transmission and put allitle pressure on it, if the mount is broke it will seperate, R2ing it is farily straightforward, I reccomend getting a polly one, as the rubber ones are notorious for breaking

19iroc, you couldn't smacked the cat's....but you'd see a pretty deep crease/dent in the heatsheields if that were the case. Look around the ypipe to see if anything looks "shifted" or too close to the frame etc. other than your tranny mount breaking that'd be the only thing I could think of. I once drove off a 4" curb...the lot actually had a curb end that was flush with the next lot 4" inches below it and that's what I didn't see before it was too late. No damage but a LOT of swearing.

If you get a bang, slap, etc when you punch it I'd swear it's DEFINETLY the tranny mount. I've gotten the same thing when I broke 4 OEM mounts and 2 energy suspension mounts. That was with a stout 350 and TCI streetfighter 3 speed though. But the same result, I'd punch it and hear what sounded like a hammer slap the tranny tunnel.

19Iroc, good to hear your back on the road. Whatever you ran over probably didn't cause the failure but more so launching the car or peeling out. The mounts break usaully before anything else.
