WHERE CAN I FIND A CRUSH SLEEVE FOR A BORG WARNER 9-BOLT?

I have the infamous borg warner 9-bolt rear in an 87 iroc. I need to change the pinion seal but I can't seem to find anybody that sells the crush sleeve for this rear. GM is telling me that it has been discontinued, so HOW THE F*** DO I FIX MY REAR?!?!?!?! Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Rear End

I also have the 9-bolt borg warner rear end, so thanks for the website link. I am pretty sure that I have the 2.73 gear ratio. Is it possible to buy a replacement gear to make it a 3.43 or 3.73? If so, where can I purchase it and how hard is it to install?

Thanks!

oh god!

Parts are hard enough to find for the 9bolt, im not sure if your going to have much if any luck finding anything other than 2series gears to fit your carrier.

If its 3.43+ it wont be too bad but 2 series aint going to be fun.

84Z,
Thanks for the link. I've actually been to that site in the past and completely forgot about it, so thanks for the reminder. I think I'll order a few to justify the shipping and save some time in the future.

Pinion seal

Hey I dunno if you know this but if you are just changing the pinion seal theres no reason to change the crush sleeve. If you change the crush sleeve you are gona pretty much have to take aprt the whole rear end.

That's what I thought when I originally changed the pinion seal. But apparently there was a preliminary procedure that I was supposed to follow before removing the pinion nut. I have had this car for nine years and the only thing that I have had to do to the rear was change the oil. About two months ago the seal finally went. I didn't know that I needed to check preload and sh** to change a f*****g pinion seal. Didn't need to with the ten-bolt. Anyway the seal still leaks and I have no preload reference to go by if I am to follow the proper procedure for the removal and installation of the pinion nut. I figure that if I replace the crush sleeve when I change the pinion seal again, I should be able to use the preload torque for a used pinion bearing(about 7in lbs). Unfortunately, as you mentioned, that means that I have to rip the f*****g cover off again. Well, at least the rear will get some fresh oil. If anyone knows otherwise, any useful advice would certainly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try these guys. They appear to have just about anything you'd want for a BW 9 bolt.

Why does this link keep coming up looking like this. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Yeah, you're linking to a Java script (database lookup) instead of a web page.

Yo Z, thanks a lot man, that site is great. I'll keep them in mind when I upgrade to 3.73's. hopefully in the near future.
