Need transmissions models explained

Hey all,
I have a 91 camaro rs. i want to install a 4th gen rear end with 3.73 gears. I will be putting in a 350 engine soon. I see all of these different models of trannys here on the board but I don't know what they are. Whould my stock auto tranny work with this setup or should I try to find a different tranny. I am looking to make 350 - 400 HP for street use. Let me know what you all think and thanks from a noob!!

Is your current engine a v8? If so, your tranny will work - but don't be surprised if your 350's torque let's you know that your tranny needs a rebuild - my 305 ran my 700R4 tranny fine, no slippage - but when I put the 350 in front of it - a had major slippage, and had to get a rebuild done.

If you have v6 now - the tranny won't work, even though it's also a 700R4, it won't bolt up to a v8 block.

um...all chevy bellhousing bolt patterns are the same up until the LS series engines came out, any chevy bellhousing/trans will bolt up to any chevy engine, you might need the correct flywheel/flexplate, depending on the application but other than that they will bolt up no prob

Nope - check again - V6 belhousings are different from V8 - it's been posted on here a million times that a v6 tranny won't attach to a v8

I beleve that is because of a clutch/flywheel issue....let me re-check things, but I've done it before whith TH-350's, so I know it works W/ autos

No, it's because of a bellhousing bolt pattern issue. The 60 degree V6 uses a different bolt pattern from the V8 and 90 degree V6. The 700R4 never came with a dual-pattern bellhousing.

The TH200C was a 3 speed automatic available from 1982-1983. The TH700R4 was a 4 speed automatic used from 1983-1992. No other automatic transmissions were used, except for the TH200-4R in the 1989 TTA.

The T10 4 speed manual was used in 1982 only. All manuals 83 and up are variants of the T5 5 speed manual.

The '82 T10 is somewhat rare. The saginaw 4 speed is more common. Not that that really pertains to the queston on autos...

however, that leads me to ask; no third gens came with TH350s stock???
