Do I need an adjustment or something worse is happening?

Hello,

I just bought a 1989 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z, 350 TPI, 4 speeds automatic transmission, 2.73 POSI...

When I floor it from a stop, the 1-2 shift always go fine, but when it should shift to 2-3, it just doesn't shift 90% of the time and I have to let off the gas pedal a little so it shift in 3rd.

What is wrong? If it's an adjustment, how do I do it the right way? I don't wan't to burn my transmission with improper adjustment.

Thanks and see ya!

It may not be the problem but at least it would eliminate it.

I'll have a GM mechanic adjust it to factory spec next week, hope it'll help! I wanted to drag witht he car 1-2 july... It would look bad in the middle of the race, my car don't wan't to shift in 3rd lol.

I'll also make them change the tranny oil, filter and gasket. They will also change the rear end fluid and gasket.

So I should be good with that I hope.

Mine does the same. It always gets almost to 6 grand and I have to let off a little to let it shift. I've changed my filter and fluid and tried to adjust the TV cable but mine won't rachet so I'm gonna get a new cable but if that don't work I guess its the trans. Hopefully not!!!!!!!!
