I have no drive but 1st, 2nd, od and reverse work. My neighbour said I can have his tranny from an 82 chev van that has a 350 in it, will it fit?. How can I tell what transmissions will fit?

 

any chevy trans with the large bolt pattern will bolt to any chevy block with the same bolt pattern IE small blocks/big blocks and some assorted V6s and I4s. so it will almost 100% assuredly bolt to the engine the fun part is if it is the same Length and has the same trans mount point as the camaro/firebird trans. if its anything other than a 700R4 or T5 it will be a different length and have a different trans mount. there are different od combos on chevy trans that will fit properly but for the most part they will need a custom DS and crossmember.

First find out what the trans is and them some of the more knowlagable people on here will be able to help more.

 

ahh.. I didn't even factor that it would mount diferently or be diferent length.

You also need to be concerned with how you will mount the torque arm. From what I've heard (I have a T-5) - the TH 350's for F-body's have a shorter tailshaft housing with a torque arm mount. I'm sure someone with a automatic could expound on this??

 

Does anyone know how to diagnos this problem so I know if its bands or clutch plates or whatever you?.
