Well my posi is broke on my car (95 trans am) and i have a chance to get a 3rd gen rear out of a 84 trans am that has 4.10's and a spool. What problems am i going to run into with the rear being narrower and the back brakes being drum. Also did any of those rears have 3 channel abs like my car dose.

Will my disc brakes bolt to that rear?
Will my Bmr adj torque arm work?
Will my 17/275 rim tire combo still bolt onto my car and fit?

if you get a 3rd gen rear you'll have to space your wheels out roughly 2 inches on each side depending on your backspacing. torque arm will work. and no your brakes wont bolt on. they have iron calipers an 89 up rearend the brakes would bolt on.

the rear will physically bolt into the suspension points.

your disc brakes can be adapted to fit.. however, they dont just bolt on. its like doing a brake upgrade on a 3rdgen... theres an artical on the main page under technical articals about it in detail.
your brake line is metric, and will not just screw into the drum brake line without adapting one of the lines. as far as i know, noone makes the adapter you need.


your torque arm will bolt on just fine.. no issues.. same with the driveshaft.

you need ~2" bolt on spacers to fit 4thgen offset rims.... 3rdgen rims will just bolt on, and so will most "old school" drag race rims, and older GM rims( 2wd S10, Gbody, ect...)

no thirdgens had ABS so there are no reluctor rings for your system.

if it was me, id just find a 4thgen rear. people upgrade to 12bolts/9"s and just give the 10bolts away.
