transmission help

after hours of searchin i couldnt find anything that related to this question so my apologies if this is a repeat...

im running an 87 trans am gta, my tranny went, and im lookin for a cheap fix... its a 305 tpi... wat transmission goes with that, is it the th700r4?
and if so, do u guys foresee any problems taking the tranny from a gm truck and tossing it my gta?

Your car should have a 700. If the truck has a 700, it can be used.

It is a 700r.Shouldnt be a problem but you will have to change the tail of tranny.Truck tranny dosent have a place for the torque arm to mount to.

it does have a 700, but will the mounting places and gear and tail shafts all match?

If you want to keep the torque arm you have to just change the tail .

If you switch the tailhousing, yes.

changing the tail expensive? can i pull one off a 700 at a junkyard or should it be rebuilt/bought new.....sorry, i dont kno much about drivetrains

Take the tailhousing off the f-body trans and install it on the truck trans. No need to buy anything.

Everything should be the same.Just make sure you dont get a tranny from a 4x4 they are different.
