i know they dont make/sell them anymore but i knwo i could find one from someone
having said that i want to learn a bit about these things
they made them for the 10 bolts under our cars right ?
were they all the same series or did they make them in more than one series ?
did they make them for 26 spline, or for 28 spline, or for both ?
whats usually the going rate on any that are floating around for sale
that will work for now
thanks

Yes they will fit the 10-bolts in these cars.
They are all 28-spline, AFAIK.
I don't know of any 2-series ones, as all the ones in the LS1 cars (which is where we would get them from) were 3 series, AFAIK; but for all I know, there might be a 2 series one out there somewhere.
Going rate?
Try your local junkyard or something. Whatever they want, is the going rate. But that said, you can usually pick up an entire LS1 rear for around $250-300; or the carrier for $250-300. Think about it: what good, to a junkyard, is a rear without a carrier? To sell you just the carrier, they completely destroy the value of the rear. Basically, instead of "buying the carrrier", what REALLY happens is, you buy the rear, take out the pieces you want, and then they're gracious enough to dispose of the rest of it for you.
In which case, it would most likely make ALOT more sense, to just stick the whole thing under your car since that way you're probably getting FAR better rear brakes than what you have now; and get some other wheels so you don't end up with that silly-looking r¡cer "skateboard" look, where you have little narrow wheels like what came on all these cars stuck out past the quarter panels.

All LS1 cars had the RPO code "LS1", just like LT1's had the RPO code "LT1". Also, not ALL LS1 cars got the zexel torsen. 98 was the last year to receive the auburn cone style. 99-02 they put zexel torsen units in all axles that had posi (rpo code G80). I believe through 96-98 only SS and WS6 f-bodies got the torsen unit. Some torsen units were 2 series. The automatics from 99-02 that had the 2.73 ratio gears got the 2 series torsens.
I would try to find a 99-02 Z28/Trans Am, or a 96-98 SS/WS6.

good info thanks putting info in a txt file until i go shopping in yards
how long did the chassis and axle configuration remain the same as the third gens ?
direct swap to a third gen ?
were these drum rears or either drum or disc ?
(99-02 Z28/Trans Am, or a 96-98 SS/WS6.)
would these be traction control NW9, or without ?
(car-part.com search)
thanks

Always
Yes
Disc
Doesn't matter.... the sensors just add a small amount of extra weight... although if you get one with the 4-wheel version, you have to change out the brake lines, since your system only has one line that works both rear brakes

Disc brakes are better then drum, that is why they switched to them. Only v6 4th gens got the drums, and then there are the sportier v6's that had discs. Anything is possible with switching discs to drums, but it would be a lot of work. It is easier, and more beneficial to keep the discs.
The axles that had posi with forsure torsens were the 99-02 years.
28 splines are better then 26. The 28 spline axles are bigger in diameter.
4th gen RPO code stickers are in the glove compartment on the passenger side.
You can swap the whole axle into thirdgens, but it does take some work. Brake lines, e-brake, and such need to either be modded, or takes work to get them to work.

Yep, I seem to have this issue. Recently picked up an LS-1 torsen rearend for my third gen camaro. Anyone knows a clean way to resolve this ? I have only one brake line going to the rear brakes. (used to be thirdgen drum brakes) but there are two separate brake lines on the 4th gen rearend.

You don't need some Y piece. You need the right lines.
90-92 F car. It'll cost you less money, and will work EXACTLY RIGHT, guaranteed.
