New 700r4 quit today,a few quests before i consult for warrantee

Ok, its a 700r4,fresh rebuilt stage 2 shift kit, corvette servo, rebuilder set shift points, and also bought a 2800 stall from same people.and a new tv cable also.

Trans has 600 miles on it,up to today, it shifted just perfect, no slips, etc.
From first to second, it barks, and spins.always bangs into gear if i drive it manually, which i figured was normal with the mods to the tranny.
Now if i just leave it in drive and let it shift on its own, it shifted smooth, unless i got my foot in it, then it would bark.

Today,at a stop light, dropped it in low,and started out,and shifted manually into second gear,at about 3,000 rpm,and a small clunk noise, then reved up,and nothing, like its in neutral.
so now i got reverse, park and neutral,
dont have od,1,2,or any forward gears?

So, checked over linkage, etc, pulled the pan, found quite a bit of brass in the pan/filter, and a very slight haze of clutch,,but mostly brass.
The linkage in the valve body etc, looks good, and appears to be working properly, and the tv/cable and assembly looks good.

Question is, think the tranny is smoked?or anything else i can check?
Its a maddog, paid 1200 for it.

I think it's on the AfterMarket Parts or Vender Board, that had a thread going about maddog....didn't seem to be too many happy customers.

I've never seen, driven, installed, or done anything else involving a maddog transmission but I will say that I've done lots of searching through the archives of this site and I cant even tell you how many people are pissed off about there Maddog transmission and even more pissed off about the service and customer support of the guy who runs it. I have not heard of a single satisfied customer. I remember reading about one guy who took his Maddog apart and found a bunch of crappy, worn out, used parts.

Do a search and you'll see.

The last time I had a clunk and lost all foward gears, I broke the rear planetary gearset and cracked the output shaft.

I think he is referring to broken hard parts, as I descibed in my broken trans. Before you send it out, check his warrantee. I believe he does not warrantee hard parts breakage. You may want to repair it locally to avoid the 2 way shipping expenses. Could get expensive sending it back to florida.

Hard parts are funny. Sometimes they go for 20 years without a hiccup and sometimes they suddenly break with little explanation. Diplomacy is always a good thing. Hopefully you 2 can work out a good resolution.

Well,found out im out of warrantee on time, {3month warrantee}
Bought it from ebay 14 months ago.
Talked today with a pretty decent fellow at maddog, and discussed that this tranny has only 600 miles, like my motor, and was very pleased that he understood, and will work with me on it.
They say the same thing, that an internal piece is broken/explaning the brass in the filter/pan.
This is what i got= i pay for shipping to florida,he tears it apart, and if a failed part,he will go good on it,if it needs a total rebuild again,he will do that, but the cost,if its a total rebuild wont be anymore than 400,my cost, and they will pay for shipping back to maine.
We also discussed my torque converter, being full of brass, and states he will sell me one at employee costs of 180,if i wanted to go that route.

I second that. Probably the rear planet, the sun gear, and the sun gear bushing(thus the brass)
I've watched one trans eat 2 rear planets(a couple years a piece) It's got an extremely firm shift, and it's behind about 375hp. Just put a 5-pinion planet in it and built it myself this time(my others have lasted.....so far)

I looked up "the perfect shift" and this web site said you do not want a 700r4 or any trans for that matter to shift hard but rather a smooth transfer from one gear to the next. It is better to push a car than run into the car to get it to move. This site had a lot of good info in it. I would take trans to another shop to get fixed. You will have the same problem unless the trans is built right.

Thankx for the input guys, well 400 to rebuild,175 to ship, 180 for tourque conv.im already over 700, and may still have another junk tranny when im finished,
Im gonna go another route, and either rebuild it my self, send it out locally, or do a th350,or t5 swap.
Im pretty interested on the th350,my 81 had one, and was very strong, with the abuse i gave it.
Im gonna cruise the boards on the th350,manual valve body, settup.

true...to an extent. The "softer" the shift, the more time the trans is taking to fully apply the clutches, thus more clutch burn.... - That's why performace oriented transmissions tend to have firm shifts.

Yes, very true. I went to the "Trans-go" website. You might do some reading there, very interesting.
As I understand the more smoother the shift the more BOTH servos are engaged to a certain degree; that is two gears are slightly both applied and some disc slippage is allowed. Smoother gear change slightly more heat build-up and clutch pack wear. No free lunch I guess...
