88-92 formula performance shifter (auto) why wont they fit?

Car: 89 formula and my late 86 iroc R.I.P girl
Engine: 89 firebird formula-305 tbi,86 iroc 305 tpi
Transmission: both 700r4
88-92 formula performance shifter (auto) why wont they fit?
i want to get a nice shifter for my new tranny, but both hurst and b&m say there shifter for 82-92 camaro and firebirds wont fit in the 88-92 formulas. why is this? is there any way to make them fit? i have an 89 formula thats why i am asking

They say it wont fit because of the dash in the firebirds. Alot of people have made them work tho. Hell mine dident fit right in my camaro, but i have learned along time ago that bolt on never realy just bolts on.

Axle/Gears: 3.73
They work just fine I have one in my formula. You need to use a cutting tool and cut out the plastic cover around your shifter. You have to align the cover plate on the shifter from B&M to barely misses the swithes for your windows. It just takes a little measuring and cutting to get it in.
