Need speedo help

Hey guys, well my speedo on my 1984 pontiac firebird is missing a cable of some sort. My local parts stores cant seem to find the right part that goes between this sensor and transmissiong. Im really confussed and have no idea what part i should be looking for. Any help will be much appreciated. Heres some pics...

Also the trany is a 700r4 auto

Are you talking about that 2 inch long or so piece of square cable that goes into the gear and then into the sensor? If so I do not know where you will find one... I do not think a standard parts store will have it though, and you may need to go to the dealer. or go to a salvage yard and pick one up. probably will cost you a whole 50 cents.. or if you are good you can cut a new one out of some steel stock.. a bit of work for sure. but they are stronger than the stock thing...

I had to replace my little part though.. I just went to the salvage yard... I did have to fabricate the metal retainer thing that keeps the housing in the transmission from falling out.. the stock one was actually to thick for my speed sensor.

I have no idea, but it has to go from that sensor to the transmission.

Is there any way to bypass that sensor and directly hook up the main cable to the tranny?
