I just bought the car.. its an 84 z28, the guy that sold it to me is saying there is a 700r4 in there, well.. i also have a 92 rs that i know for sure has a 700r4, on the shiftplate it goes 1 2 d and overdrive... thats with the 700r4.. now wht the 84 z28, it goes 1, 2, 3 and just drive r and n are on both of course, but anyway.. is it possable that the 700r4 is in the 84 also?

 

Sounds more like a TH200C.

 

A buddy of mine told me the other day its most likely the "7002r4" i didnt even know there was such a thing.. but in any case, how do i find out exactly witch one i have, by looking at it

 

It won't be a TH200-4R, that's a different animal.

If it's a three speed, and it's original, it's a TH200C.

 

Its not original, he said he just put it in about 2 months before i bought the car.. could be full of ****, i dont know but it shifts like a champ.. what my question is.. is it possable to shift a 700r4 (thats what hes calling it) manualy with the shifter 1,2,3 because ive done that and it will do it.. not like my 92 its just 1,2 d and over d.. is it possable to shift the 700r4 into 3rd?

 

Do you think he changed the shifter plate and the tranny? Are you saying 1,2,3 and Drive? That'd make it 4 speed, so could be a 700R4.

 

youre just gonna have to get under the car and look, its hard to say what they did to it and put into it

4 speed autos like the 700r4 had four forward gears, no matter what the shift plate says

this was the 700r4 and the 2004r

you need to see what shape the pan is and how many bolts are around it

and check online real quick

its real easy

we are gonna be here all year trying to guess what tranny you are unsuccessfully trying to describe to us becaus ei dont think that you understand auto trans gears/ranges very much

sure you can put a 700r4 into 3rd gear, you can put any tranny into any gear you want manually, but it wont get to that gear until the car is going fast enough to need it, regardless of the gear you have it in with the shifter

Alright, thanks guys.. its going to have to come out anyway at some point since he said there was a street / strip kit put in and then told me there wasnt after i bought it.. i mean the $30 kit wouldnt have been much of a decideing factor anyway.. but it would have been nice, so i need to put that in anyway i need to find out what tranny for sure it is first though

 

The 200c were only put in the 82-83 models, unless he changed it out to a 200c.
