What is my stock drivetrain?

I just bought a 1985 Trans Am and I was wondering if they come stock with a posi rear end and a 700R4 trans, if possible how can I tell?

If you've got a 4 speed automatic, it's a 700R4. Your car may or may not have come with a posi. Look for the G80 RPO code to see what it had from the factory, and pull the diff cover off to see what it has now.

Are you talking about the 2nd 3rd and 4th digit of the VIN? And I was told it was all stock so whatever the RPO code would say I'd assume it still is.

Your car has a Service Parts ID (SPID) label on it somewhere that lists the Regular Production Option (RPO) codes for all the options that were built into the car. The code for posi was G80.
