my700r4 wont shift out of first!!

it'll engage into every gear fine, no problem there. but when i put it into OD there's a hard jolt when it engages. first gear takes off fine but thats the only gear i get. it will not shift out of first no matter what i do, it kinda feels like it's slipping, any ideas?

Torque Convertor or Rebuild

I had a similiar problem with my 1987 IROC i eventually went for a new tranny all together. You should rebuild it. Easy as Pie....Pay someone $500 to do it. Either case this is going to cost you $500 around, Im happy that i have a 4l60E with trouble codes etc. 700r4 after a rebuild you should expect another 50,000 miles easily. I say get the tranny rebuilt for $500-600

check that trans fluid. it seems like your problem might be more complex but i had a similar problem with mine not going into 4th gear.. check the fluid while running and perhaps that'll be a quick fix -vs- a trans rebuild. its always worth a shot.

Pop the governor out. Inspect the gear and make sure the valve is working smoothly. If you are lucky, it is sticky or the gear is chewed up. It would be lucky because it would be a $10 fix.

so i drove the car to the back of my work and threw it on a lift, then i popped the cap off that covers the governor and had a look, it turns out the governor gear was completly broken off of the governor, lol...... the tranny tech didn't even guess that, that was the problem, so i'll fix that tomorrow and see how she drives, i'll let you guys know, thanks

so it turned out that the gear on the end of my governor was chipped, stripped, broken, melted...... so i had it replaced, (not to mention the broken part was actually stuck in the tranny), and now it drives sooooooooooooo smooth and it only ran me about $30!! thank you guys so much i really needed this......... once again
