10 bolt question-- answer is probably NO
I have a 383 with a 700R4 and the stock 10 bolt peg leg rear. It has about 485 hp and 509 tq at the crank. So whatever you figure at the rear wheels.
My question is, will that rear end hold up for just regular driving around town?
I dont drive very much. Just 3-5 miles to work everyday. I've gotten a few tickets recently so I will NOT be racing it or driving it hard. I'm hoping that if I just baby the hell out of this car for a while, I can save up and get a 9" or 12 bolt.
It seems to be driving around town okay right now, but I cant tell if its killing the rear end or not. I did drain it and fill it with brand new Lucas 80w90 oil.
I may also be making a 200 mile trip in it early next month... would that harm it any?
like the title says, I know the answer is probably that it wont last, but I'm just wondering.

you should try a set of c-clip elims and maybe a nice set of after market axels and gears if you plan on keeping it long i got mine fairly cheep still need to upgrade but i feel alot safer with it now.. the c-clip elims will atleast let you drive it normal with very minimal dicking around..lol i havent beaten on it super hard yet but nice easy acceleration to see what it could do with the new 383... even a stock 10 bolt will handle it i would say aslong as you dont do any high launches or power throttle it around a corner... really if you dont have some kinda street slicks on it or a really fat radial with that much power your just going to break traction and spin it before you get a chance to brake the axel... dont bet money on it for sure..lol but i havent had enough traction to brake it yet on street tires...

Yeah i just have some crappy all-season tires... 215/60/15s on stock rims.
Like I said, I wont be doing anything with it, as tempting as it will be...

you wont be able to with 215's i promise you will just spin them to kingdom come... i have 255's out back just BFG's radial TA's and if i floor it it just brakes them loose, and its the same power area of yours... im too afraid to spray it just yet but as for straight lines i havent been able to get enough traction to even effect the axel.. just dont try when your 200 miles from home cause thats when it will decide to fail..lol

10 bolts have been pushed into the 11 second range with no problems but have also been broken on the streets with a stock 305.
If I remember correctly, I was running 1.7x 60' times with mine. I did have a few modifications done to it but it still had the tiny ring and pinion which is the weakest link in the diff.
