Clutch pedal being a royal PITA

I dont know if anyone has had this problem with their 3rd gen but there is a small plastic piece that is used to connect the clutch pedal to the clutch cylinder rod comming out from the firewall. I have broken this piece TWICE! and it costs 15bucks. the other night it broke again at 10pm and i had to rip off the panel under the dash and connect it only to have it fall off 4 times on the way home, having to stop each time. This piece is $15 from GM parts, #14091384.

Is there a metal piece i can buy, or anyone have any idea what im talking about and can think of something that might work instead.

1. Screw the dealer. You can get a whole pack of assorted ones of those in the Help! section at VatoZone, Advance, O'Reilly's, Pep Boys, etc. etc. etc., for about $3. One of the ones in the pack is the one you need.

2. If you're breaking it, you're not putting it together right, or there's something else wrong; like, the rod or the pedal is bent, or something like that. There's ordinarily no force whatsoever on it. Those normally last hundreds of thosuands of miles without failure, so if yours are lasting much less than 20 years, I'd say there's something else wrong and you need to figure out what it is and fix that, rather than blaming the clip itself.

3. No there's no metal one, that I know of; no need (therefore, no market) for it. People won't be bothered making something if nobody will bother to buy it.

There is a metal clip available that works much better than the stock plastic piece. 4th gen clutch pedal assemblies use a metal circlip that works on the third gen pedals as well. It works great, no more stupid broken plastic clips!

Interesting...

My new 4th gen hydraulics came in their GM box with a plastic clip, exactly like the 3rd gen one except different, made into the master cyl push rod.

I used the metal clip off a 94 z28 donor car, the difference I saw with the T56 hydraulics is the master cyl pushrod has a plastic/delron bushing pressed onto it and is held on the clutch pedal by a metal clip. The third gen setup uses the white plastic clip/bushing. When using a third gen pedal setup with T56 hyd the plastic master cyl bushing has to be removed because it will not go over the shaft on the clutch pedal. What I did with mine since I was using the third gen pedals, was use the white plastic bushing/clip, cut the retaining clips off so its just a bushing and then use the 4th gen metal clip to retain it.

great idea... just a few days ago i bought the same metal clip that i found on my brake pedal. It worked perfectly for the clutch too. I still have that old bushing i should cut and use it too.
