Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Yes, it is mounted on the engine side of the firewall; and comes off in that direction.

It should come right off, there's nothing holding it on except those 2 nuts.

Try taking off that U-bolt thing, maybe tapt it out of the holes with a piece of wood or something so you don't ding up the ends of the threads.

Be aware though, that if it's hard to get apart now, you will invent a whole new vocabulary trying to get it back in. I'd suggest figuring out what's holding it stuck. I'd suspect that maybe you should loosen the pedal pivot bolt, that holds the other end of those 2 brackets that are also under those 2 nuts you've taken out.
