replace 9 bolt with 10?

I have an 89 gta with bw 9 bolt, just wondering if a 10 bolt from a 90 to 92 is a straight bolt in? I hear the parts for my diff are expensive with not many choices in gear ratios, and it's on it's way out.

Yeah, the 90-92 ten bolt will directly replace your nine bolt, and you'll have infinitely more choices for gear ratios, posi units, etc. There's always people looking for extra nine bolt stuff, so you could sell off your old rear whole or in parts to recoup some of the expense of the ten bolt.

you can get rear ends from junkyards easy. how close are you to pittsburgh? actually mt pleasant pa which is more like an hour southeast of pittsburgh. i know a shop/junkyard that specializes in fbody stuff. mainly 4th gens tho but still a direct bolt in, just alittle wider. thats where i got my rear and the swap was easy as pie

Are you swapping one disc rear end for another?

True, just trying to verify that both rears were truely 89-92.

What parts do you need for the 9 bolts?
Gears are available - tons of stock 3.23's and aftermarket 3.70's.
Bearings and seals you can get off the shelf. I have new Motive 3.70's and Timken bearing kits for sale...

Just the posi when they wear are expensive to replace, but they can be repaired. You can shim the posi quite easily to tighten it up IF the cones are not bottomed in the carrier. This is very easy to do. If the cones are bottomed out, you can grind the outer face to bring them back to life...
