Is this a B&M Ratchet shifter?? If so I think thats just how they are. I have been using my ratchet shifter for over a year and its still stiff when trying to get out of park.

I've had mine in for about a year now myself, and I find that it is getting easier to pull out of park as it gets broke in. Make sure you have no hard bends in the cable, that will make it hard also. I think these shifters do pull kind of hard out of park anyway, but mine is getting better with age and use..

Any problems downshifting from drive? When my car is running the shifter won't "grab" enough to shift into second. I have to physically pull on the plate that the cable is mounted on and help it to shift. When the car is not running it works fine. I installed a transgo shift reprogrammer for full manual shifts- could that be the problem?

may need to adjust the cable a little bit.

I agree with what was said above, that you are going to need to fine tune the adjustment on your cable, go to the instructions for adjustment that came with the shifter and adjust accordingly. I have no issues with up shifts or downshifts on mine.

I just found out the "vacuum modulator", whatever that is, needs to be hooked up despite having a full manual valve body.

if you have a 700r4, you don't have a vacuum modulator.

Maybe I'm behind the times, but i thunk only Ford C4's and C6's and maybe the E4OD only had vacuum modulators? Sure you don't have a mustang there, chief?

plenty of chevy trannys had vacuum modulators. TH350,TH400,TH440-t4,TH125&c. E4OD doesn't have a vacuum modulator though.
