I've got a 85 z28, which rearend with posi, will drop right in, preferably with the 3+ carrier. If it has lower gears it's fine, plans are to install Richmond gears anyway. Thanks guys.

Any 82-92 f-body rear will drop in. A 93- fbody rear will bolt in, but require new wheels to offset in further. Otherwise, it aftermarket 12-bolt or 9".

also, don't run Richmond pro gears on the street. They won't last.
Richmond street gears are known for being noisy and harder to properly set-up, you might want to do a little research and get a different brand.

I have a 72 10 bolt with 4.10, 73 10 bolt with 3.42, and a 68 12 bolt with 3.42. All of them are Richmond street gears, and all of them are quiet, and the 73 has about 100,000 miles on it. I also have an 82-92 12 bolt with about 20 minutes on it with Motive or US Gear and it isn't quiet. I think the noise factor has more to do with how much effort you take to set them up correctly than the brand. But there are always the odd one no matter what part/brand your dealing with.

Yea, I wasn't going to use the Richmond Race gears, just the Street series.

i have the richmond street gears and i can vouch for them being noisy, but not to bad

Rear gear noise also has A LOT to do with the vehicle they're in. The more that's between you and them, the quieter they are. Richmond will even tell you that their gears are sometimes noisier than others because they often use a different helix than most. It's supposedly stronger, but noisier.

I ran a set of richmond 4.10 street gears and they were a little noisy but otherwise were awsome. Strong gears and even after My posi shattered at the track the gears were still ok. Went to 9 inch now though and thats even better.

Well tonight was weird. When I was backing the car into the driveway, I came over a bit to far, into the grass, so I put it in drive and went to re-position it. WELL, the other night I did a burnout, my passenger-right tire left a nice line. When I threw it into drive moving it, my driver-rear started spinning.

85 rear? Worn out or not, it's probably a Gov-lock posi, meaning it's only good use is a paper weight, even if it's in perfect condition.

Yeap is an 85, Took the car out to a dirt road, started spinning and had a buddy watch. The right was spinning, and before I let off the brake the left started to. I'm thinking either locker or the "Gov-lock posi"
Anyway to tell for sure besides dropping the cover?

**EDIT** Checked the rearend for codes, and I got 22522678, anyone know off hand what it is? I'm gonna look around for it.

Ummmm yeah, pulling the cover is always the best way to determine which carrier you have, but chances are it's a "grenade lock", um I mean gov-lock. Lol. I've seen the gov-lock in a lot of 85 rears. As far as Richmond gears go, I'm running the street gears in my 69 Camaro 12 bolt, and they're quiet as can be, but I've heard tons of people say they're kinda noisy in the 7.5" rears. Of course, it'd be hard to hear them with full headers and a 4 speed anyways! I've always heard that Motive or factory GM gears are the quietest gears in the 7.5". All the factory codes will tell you is if it's a posi, and what gear ratio it is. The G80 (posi) code won't tell you what specific type of posi unit you have.

Thanks for the help man, But I am getting a rearend from my brothers friend which is 3.73 posi, its a great rearend which performed flawlessly. only 200 bucks!!!!!

if you have to complain about your gears being too loud the real problem is your exhaust isnt loud enough
