700r4 questions

700r4 questions

i just got a 700r4 from the junkyard that im going to rebuild it was out of a 93 g20 chevy van i think bit i took off the pan today and it had 2 solenoids i thought they only had one for the convertor lock-up? and it is set-up for a electronic speedo can i change that over to a cable driven ? are these all stupid ?'s and i really got a 4l60e? ok wow im a retard i should have looked into this more before i got the transmission well same questions still stand will this work for me with a carbed no computer car?

Transmission: check
Look at the connector for the TCC/4th gear switch connection. Will be on drivers side (US), above the pan about midway back on the case.

If it is a square 4-pin connector (may only have 3 pins inserted), then it is a standard 700R4.

If the connector is round with a bunch of pins, then it is an E trans.

The 4l60e plug in is on the passenger's side. - What you're calling "solenoids" may just be pressure switches. - Simply re-use your original speedo drive/gears (assuming this trans is to replace another) or obtain older cable stuff to switch back from the electronic.

Correct me if im wrong, But a 4L60E has no TV cable either......

In 1993 there were some units that had a 5 pin round plug, instead of the 4 pin square plug, (3 pins were actually used). The 5 pin had one of solenoids in the front of the valve body.

ok yes the one i got is a 4l60e but the junkyard told me it was a 700r4 i should have payed more attention ill just go back there saturday and make sure i get the right one this time thanks for all your replies
