tv problem in 700r4
a while back my transmission started shift funny. It would stay in first till it reached high rpms(dont ask me how high my tach doesnt work) about 20-25 mph then it would shift hard into second. I messed around with the tv cable and it stopped. Well now its back and it does it in every gear. Sometimes it doesnt even downshift all the way to first when i come to a complete stop. I called a transmission shop near by they said that my tv is getting jammed and that i would have to rebuild the tranny..is this true?...and also if im going to rebuild it i need to know a good PERFORMANCE rebuild kit and coverter to buy? Thanks Hunter

unhook the cable from its bracket. pull on the cable. do you feel it binding at all?
the cable is hooked to a spring in the tranny and you should be able to feel the resistance. The cable needs to be adjusted so wide open throttle = tv cable all the way out. This is the correct adjustment. somtimes the plastic self adjuster on the tv cables will strip out and you will need a new cable. check all of this out before dumping the tranny in favor of aa 2500-3000 replacement.
Also your governor could have broken springs or missing springs. pull the cover and have a look here to. Jack up the car on the left rear as high as you can. It will make this much easier.

I would remove and carefully inspect the governor before writing the big check. A stripped gear or sticking valve could easily explain your problem.

on the drivers side of the car, On the transmission under a cover. you can remove it while still under the car. Do a search lots of info here.
If the TV valve is getting stuck, and sometimes frees it self, this could be the TV valve, it happens occasionally. The TV valve needs to de upgraded to the Trans-Go self cleaning no stick valve. You could add the Trans-Go Junior at the minimum. Or put in the Trans-Go modified Performance Shift kit. If you just want the valve setup, let me know? I have a few spares with the needed pieces.

If the transmission is in good shape & all that is wrong is the Throttle Valve, why rebuild the whole transmission? When someone tells you, you need a transmission, and they "know" what the problem is........ this tells me they are greedy, and they are not looking to solve your problem, they see you as another person they can take advantage of for whatever reason....... This is the kind of business practices I hate, and most people in business think that this is an ok practice. Aamco has this down to a "science". Notice I did not say you needed a transmission.......

well what i was told is that there is something making the tv stick, and that what ever it is its just floating around in my transmission and could calm harm to other components. And i also heard that since this thing is not working im basically burning up my tranny
If anything that was floating around, it would be picked up by the filter. With the Trans-Go Throttle Valve, the odds of it sticking are just about zero. If the debri were floating around as he described, many other valves would be sticking not to mention other problems.
