Auburn doesn't sell the parts to rebuild theirs.

I wouldn't put an Eaton Gov-Lock in a pavement vehicle, rebuilt or not.

So the short answer is, no.

Sometimes unfortunately, if you wanna play you gotta pay.

Your best bet is to go with an Eaton clutch syle posi, but they are pretty expensive new. I've found the best prices for them trolling on Ebay. Sometimes you can find them for around $375-$400. Forget buying one from Summit or Jegs. Their prices are insane for one! If you were really, really lucky you might end up finding one used for cheaper, and the Eatons are fully rebuildable, so even if it wasn't up to par, you could get new clutches and springs to make it like new again. The hard part is finding one of those used somewhere. I see 8.5" and 12 bolt units used all the time for sale, but the 7.5" ones aren't nearly as common.

hey i dont mean to steal your thread, but i was looking at detroit lockers for my 7.5 rear end, and they come in 26 or 28 spline. I bought a pair of motive 373 gears that say 27spline on them? will they fit in my 83 camaro with one of them lockers??

26/28 splines = axles & side gears

27 splines = pinion & yoke

No connection between the 2

If the gears are for a 7½" 10-bolt, and that's what's still in your 83, then they'll fit. Depending on what's in it now, you may need either a 3 series carrier or a ring gear spacer; if the gears are 3 series (not the "special" 3 series ratios for 2 series carriers) and it's a 3 series now, you're good to go, but if it's a 2 series, you'll need the other parts.

Thanks Sofakingdom, im good then. They are the actual Series 3 gears, for the 7 1/2" 10 bolt. Another question though, about the 26 or 28 spline, Any one in particular i should go with? Will they both fit? from what ive read, it looks like the 28 spline is for a 7.625 axle, and the 26 spline is for a 7.5 axle. Did they change the axle sizes slightly later on in the 3rd gens?

Yes they changed the axles and side gears.

There's no difference between the 7.5" and 7.625" gears. It has nothing to do with the axle splines. Wherever you read that, they were wrong.

I'm not sure I understand about the "go with" part. That has nothing to do with gears. That's a carrier thing. I thought you wanted to know if those gears fit the carrier you have; which already is what it is and goes with the axles you have?

sorry for not being too clear. You answered my question about the gears, but now im trying to understand what style locker carrier i should use. I can go with a 26 spline detroit locker or a 28 spline. Will only one of them fit my axles/ side gears correctly?

Yes.

Only the one whose spline count matches your axles. You need to know which ones you have.

If the rear axle under your car is still the original 1983 unit, it has 26 spline axles. They didn't change to 28 spline axles until late in 1989.
