i took my 87 iroc, 305, 5-speed, to a transmission shop because my tranny was making a wierd noise everytime i would let go of the clutch pedal.
so i took it and this drove it around the block, he returned and told me that he found two things: 1, the throwout bearing was loose or broken, but was having play in the tranny. 2, it made a noise i the transmission while just cruising.. the guy told me that i was going to have to do a rebuild on the tranny which will cost me like $1,800...so any ideas on what i should do

 

First, If you are having doubts about the info you received, (and the car is still drivable) I would get a second opinion. (Personally, I think the price you were quoted is a bit high for just a regular rebuild, - Was the trans shop going to replace the clutch as well?)
When was the last time the clutch was changed?
Have you/did you check the fluid level in the trans?

i think he said, for that price it wouldnt include a clutch. my car rite now is not driveable. the clutch was changed around august. i havent check the trans fluid. but i think what the guy told me about the throwout bearing being the problem is true.
