stipped selector lever nut on 700r4 help!?

stipped selector lever nut on 700r4 help!?

i have a b&m shifter on my camaro and i sold the shifter and went to take it off so i could ship it and found out that the nut on the selector lever on the driver side of the 700r4 is stripped it wont loosen or tighten so i cant get the nut off to get the bracket off. i need to get this figured out b/c i need to get this thing off so i can ship out the shifter to the guy. and i need to do it in a way of not breaking anything so i can put my gm bracket back on there for my stock shifter. does anyone have any ideas for me? if you dont know what im talking about i can take a picture tonight when i get home but if anyone can help me out please do.

If you have room, I believe sears sells a tool to split the nut in two. You would have to replace the nut but as long as the threads on the shaft itself is okay that shouldn't be a problem. You might also try a dremel and a cutting disk to cut the nut in two, just be careful nut to damage the threads to badly.

hey man i really appreciate the reply i can try that i needto figure something out and thats the only suggestion i have had so i will try that.

you can try a pair of small visegrips, they need to be small enough so you can clamp them on the nut & turn them all the way around with out taking them off the nut.
clamp the visegrips on the nut, not too tight but tight enough so they won't come off when you try this, next take a flat head screw driver & put it between the visegrips & the shifter bracket & turn the visegrips in the right direction to remove the nut.
